Emma Mathews

I am an accredited psychotherapist and have previously worked as a specialist midwife in perinatal mental health, I also worked for Relate as a psychosexual and relationship therapist for a number of years.

I provide treatments for a number of psychological difficulties and will often use an integrated approach, drawing on the different approaches I have trained in to meet the needs of my clients.

I’m currently employed as a psychosexual therapist for the NHS, offering treatments for couples and individuals with sexual difficulties.  My private practice offers psychosexual and relationship therapy, cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing (EMDR), schema therapy and compassion focused therapy (CFT). I also offer treatment for sexually compulsive and addictive behaviours.

I have a special interest in the treatment of birth trauma and previous experience working as a midwife and in the area of perinatal mental health has been particularly helpful for clients trying to process a traumatic birth. 

 

I also have a special interest in the treatment of sexually addictive and compulsive behaviours, especially when these impact on sexual function, for example when men have problems maintaining an erection or reaching climax because of their pornography use or other out of control sexual behaviours.
